Brief Introduction of Geocell Confinement System

  There are two common problems at the junction of old and new roads: one is that the design is not comprehensive, and there are many technical difficulties in construction; the other is that the strength of the old road is insufficient and the thickness of the reinforcement layer is thin. The use of geogrid can make up for the deficiencies in design and construction, and improve the tightness of the new and old joints. Taking a highway project as an example, the original width of the pavement is 9 m, and now it is expanded to 15 m. The pavement structure layers from top to bottom are: AC-13 asphalt concrete layer, AC-20 asphalt concrete layer, cement stabilized gravel layer, graded gravel layer. Using glass fiber geogrid material, the breaking strength is ≥50 kN/m, the breaking elongation is ≥3%, the grid size is 25.4mm×25.4mm, and the width is 5m. After the construction is completed, the line can pass smoothly, and the appearance and quality are better than the old pavement structure; compared with the replacement and graded gravel method, the use of geogrid not only reduces the cost, but also saves maintenance costs, showing good social and economic benefits. 

Geogrid System Characteristic

  Geogrid has large tensile strength and tensile modulus, which can realize the uniform distribution of load and stress in a large area. In the soft foundation or soil layer, the application of geogrid can reduce and disperse the concentrated stress of the upper load on the soft foundation; In the asphalt structure layer, the creep effect of asphalt can be weakened and the cracking of asphalt layer can be avoided. The mesh shape of geogrid is the same, and the shear resistance of upper particles and lower particles will not be affected. The deformation and displacement caused by load compaction can be avoided under the action of stiffness, tensile strength and mesh interlocking,
Improve particle compaction effect.

Laying method

  1. After the first layer of geogrid is laid, start to fill the second layer of 0.2m thick medium (coarse) sand. The method: transport the sand to the construction site and unload it on the side of the roadbed, and then push it forward with a bulldozer. First fill 0.1m within 2m on both sides of the roadbed, then fold the first layer of geogrid and fill it with 0.1m of medium (coarse) sand. It is forbidden to fill and advance from both sides to the middle. All kinds of machinery work on the geogrid that is not filled with medium (coarse) sand, so as to ensure that the geogrid is flat, without bulging or wrinkling. After the second layer of medium (coarse) sand is leveled, the Measure horizontally to prevent uneven thickness of filling, and use a 25T vibratory roller to statically press twice after the copying is correct.

Application:

  Application of backfill in platform
